I knew a little bit about Hamlet's story, but it was also interesting to see the story through the eyes of Ophelia. This made it even more immersive. The cast consisted of many famous people and did a great job. The slightly longer playing time actually did not bother.

I didn't have high expectations, but it wasn't bad at all.

In her first role after the last three Star Wars films, Ridley definitely proves to be one of the great talents of her generation. She takes on the role of Ophelia, the great love of Prince Hamlet [George MacKay], whom most people mainly know from Shakespeare's beloved play. This adaptation of Lisa Kelin's novel begins when Hamlet's father [Nathaniel Parker] is still alive and focuses primarily on the women. Ophelia impresses Queen Gertrude [Naomi Watts] as a child, who promptly takes her under her wing as a future lady-in-waiting. Spoiler alert: Ophelia isn't dying. Knowledge of Hamlet is certainly an advantage, but the uninitiated can also enjoy the strong playing of Ridley and Watts and Clive Owen as Hamlet's cunning uncle Claudius.

The film adaptation of Lisa M. Klein's book brings the story of Ophelia, character from Shakespeare's famous "Hamlet".

Insiders may frown because the story does not always follow the famous play exactly, but apart from that, this is still a decent film with many emotions and tensions and, to follow the action, with varying chances of a good or bad sequel for both lovers.

Some, beautiful, atmospheric scenes and decent performances.
