Die Brücke am Ibar plot

The husband of the Serbian Danica was killed in the Kosovar civil war between ethnic Serbs and Albanians. She lives with her two sons Vlado and Danilo near a town that is divided into an Albanian and a Serbian part by the river Ibar. Little Danilo hasn't spoken a word since his father's death a year earlier. Vlado skips school a lot and dreams of the brand new bicycle in the shop window of the local bicycle repair shop. When Danica comes home from shopping one day, she finds in the living room a wounded Kosovar Albanian (Mišel Matičević), who is on the run from the Serbian militias. Without much thought, Danica decides to take care of him…
