Radiance delivers a special and serene portrait between the relationship of a translator of visual fragments for the visually impaired and a man who is slowly going blind. The one who, by the way, has always had something to do with image and sight because he was professionally involved in this as a photographer. His old fashion camera is therefore his greatest asset and a kind of surrogate and view of his current living environment.

I did find the feedback from the blind listeners on Misako's stories interesting. So it does not seem easy to convert images into words. On the one hand, you have to take into account the listener's own imagination and sometimes you are not allowed to reveal too much. In principle, fantasy and imagination should be very precious and strong in the blind. On the other hand, too little interpretation leads to confusion. This was the case with the word sand sculpture (something that also immediately struck me).

Despite the many positive elements in the film, I was not always enthusiastic or completely captivated by the film. Subdued and serene, natural too, but it didn't always hit me either. But. Apparently I'm not the only one here who struggled with this...

Poetic cinema that, especially in the beginning, captivated with the audio descriptions of the girl, the criticism that followed and the emotions that this aroused.

After that it is still beautiful, especially cinematic, but where a lot of thinking is also released about aspects of life, what it was like, what it could have been and what remains. However, the film also flirts a bit with exaggerated sentimentality, but I almost gave it a 4.

Naomi Kawase never disappoints but the level of "An" is not reached here.

Sensitive film with an interesting and original setting. A bit too poetic for my taste.

Strong acting from Nagase and the handsome Misaki.
