"In Open-Source We Trust"

Bitcoin is a form of electronic money and also the name of the open source software designed to use it. It is one of the first implementations of a concept called cryptocurrency, or cryptographic money, which was first described in 1998 by Wei Dai on the cypherpunks mailing list. It was implemented in 2009 by Satoshi Nakamoto (pseudonym of an unknown person or group). The disruptive effect of the virtual currency has blurred the financial status quo.
