Low budget horror film that in the past would have been called a horror film. And in my opinion, very successful. The opening credits suggest the worst, but later prove important to understand the added symbolism of the body count. It has a nice story and is set in a beautifully creepy mansion with an adjacent cemetery. The pace and spectacle are of course lower than we are used to today. But that is completely made up for by the skillful build-up of tension. All this is beautifully depicted by Paul Harrison and DoP Don Jones. Nice use of expressionistic shadows too. It is mainly the visuals that build up the tension, accompanied by creepy choral sounds.
