Zhila-byla Odna Baba plot
Varvara is married to a groping and abusive man in the Tambov region of Russia just before World War I. They live with his relatives, who also treat Varvara like a piece of filth. When her father-in-law wants to abuse her, she accidentally kills him and she and her husband have to move. They find a new place to inhabit and try to make it livable.

Life is not easy for Varvara as the synopsis shows. In the first hour alone she is raped five times. Her in-laws and husband are a real test and then the Bolsheviks have yet to come.
Beautiful photography and great acting. Maybe a bit slick but who cares.
