I also had the idea of seeing an old-fashioned horror again. And also directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Was that a disappointment? It is more of a who-dunnit crime story with the family doctor as a kind of Poirot who wants to solve the family riddle. Not very exciting. It is striking that every time in such 60s films one of the graceful leading actresses has to wander around somewhere in a transparent baby doll. Sigh, the good old days

Mediocre film in which a woman covers up her husband's death for his family. Story-wise, the whole thing lacks quite a bit of focus, which makes the film seem messy. Despite the short length, sometimes long-winded. An atmospheric scene here and there and the music is also excellent. However, mainly only interesting as an early exercise by Francis Ford Coppola.

Last night I quickly got to work with this Dementia 13 and with that a renowned director with Coppola. But it turns out that not everything that comes with such a name is immediately on fire, which I do not mean to say that it is a bad film.

Because at its core there doesn't seem to be much wrong with this Hitchcockian film that has a striking atmosphere and music from the start with the opening on the water. Beautiful as always, the black and white style and especially the aforementioned music. But unfortunately the whole thing becomes a bit dead once on the estate where mainly the family vicissitudes are discussed and the whole thing gets bogged down in dialogue and mutual relationships that don't really interest me that much.

And it is not until the discovery in the pond and the first murder that something really happens and that the film lives up to its genre definition of horror/mystery/who dun it. It is special that Louise's underpants are white before she goes into the water, but suddenly dark in color underwater. Anyway, as mentioned, that phase is the prelude to an improvement of the film that then culminates in a slasher-light with of course many suspects, as befits a Hitchcock. Yet, despite some strong points, this Dementia 13 is not going to get a passing grade and it is not always gold, even if your name is Coppola.
