Freshly recovered from his adventures as a suspect in a murder case, journalist Simon Drake finds himself once again involved in a dark affair. When he goes on holiday to France with his wife Pat, it turns out to be anything but relaxation. They have to deal with a gang of counterfeiters, in which a British aristocrat is also involved.
