Thin Ice plot

While the Arctic Council is meeting in Greenland over an agreement to ban environmentally-threatening oil drilling, a ship conducting research into climate change is attacked off the coast. Elsa, the Swedish foreign minister, supports the agreement; her political adviser Viktor is aboard the endangered ship. The attack jeopardizes Elsa's proposal and causes a lot of unrest at home in Sweden for intelligence officer Liv, who is pregnant with Viktor's child.

In deze ecologische thriller wordt spanning gecombineerd met actuele thema's. Het speelt zich af op Groenland, maar is in IJsland gefilmd. Er zitten mooie beelden in met sneeuw en ijs. Groene en Groenlandse politici worden geconfronteerd met een dilemma tussen ecologie en economie. De hoofdpersonages zijn twee moedige vrouwen. Elsa Engström, de Zweedse minister van Buitenlandse Zaken, wil een internationaal klimaatakkoord goedgekeurd krijgen. Liv, een agente van de Deense staatsveiligheid, raakt erbij betrokken wanneer haar partner gegijzeld wordt. Ondanks haar zwangerschap trekt ze zelf naar Groenland. Nevenpersonages zijn politici, zakenlui, politiemensen en gewone inwoners van Groenland. In sommige scènes wordt er Groenlands gesproken. Bijkomende conflicten zijn de Groenlandse onafhankelijkheidsdrang en de spanning met Rusland. Het blijft boeien tot het einde en het ecologische thema wordt grondig uitgewerkt.

This ecological thriller combines tension with current themes. It takes place in Greenland, but was filmed in Iceland. It contains beautiful images with snow and ice. Green and Greenlandic politicians are confronted with a dilemma between ecology and economy.

The main characters are two courageous women. Elsa Engström, the Swedish Foreign Minister, wants to get an international climate agreement approved. Liv, a Danish state security agent, becomes involved when her partner is taken hostage. Despite her pregnancy, she moves to Greenland herself.

Secondary characters are politicians, businessmen, police officers and ordinary residents of Greenland. Greenlandic is spoken in some scenes. Additional conflicts are the Greenlandic drive for independence and the tension with Russia. It remains fascinating until the end and the ecological theme is thoroughly developed.
