We see the rise and fall of a young politician. Set in 2010, The Hague is still the political center of the Netherlands. After twelve years of successful reign, the popular 75-year-old prime minister, Willem Rahusen, decides to withdraw. To everyone's surprise, he appoints the young and relatively inexperienced politician Gijs van Dorp as his successor. Succession in the monarchy is less smooth. The crown prince has little desire to succeed his mother as head of state.
