Good series based on the murder of Marianne Vaatstra and in particular its aftermath.
Her relatives were not asked to cooperate and we can all have our own opinions about this. The fact is that this applies to the majority of films/series/documentaries/podcasts that are made/have been made about such cases. Nice? Maybe not, but it is common. From the moment such a crime takes place, it is not only a matter for those directly involved, but for society as a whole. Whether we like it or not.
About the series itself: solidly put together with good acting and a pretty strong soundtrack. I like leaps in time anyway and this series makes good use of that. In different episodes the focus is on different people and events surrounding this gruesome murder. The parents, the boyfriend, the asylum center, the mayor (fantastic role of Jack Wouterse) and of course the murderer himself and his family. All very gripping. What I do find annoying is that it completely ignores who Anneke herself was. There is a brief story from the point of view of the father and her boyfriend, but that's it. What I also find more than a pity is that the enormous effort of Peter R. De Vries, for realizing the kinship research, is completely ignored. In a few minutes they could have paid a nice tribute to his hard work. Without him this case might never have been solved.
Despite this, in my opinion this series is definitely worth watching.

The six-part true crime series Eens van Ons is a sober and sometimes poignant Dutch drama that highlights the impact of the murder of Marianne Vaatstra. The series succeeds in vividly portraying the grief, anger and search for justice of the survivors. Directed by Michiel van Erp (IM, Ramses) - leave the character studies to him - and based on a screenplay by Willem Bosch (Nemesis), Een van Ons is partially convincing.
With strong acting performances (including Eefje Paddenburg as Fenna) and a realistic atmosphere, the series emphasizes the socially charged story at the time. At the same time, One of Us starts slowly, and is sometimes predictable and repetitive; each episode is told from the perspective of a different main character in the drama. In short, a carefully made, dramatized and fictionalized drama about an incomprehensible case that had the Netherlands in its grip for a long time.

It is utterly shameful. I fully understand the Vaatstra family's protest... they are being portrayed as a bunch of right-wing trolls... even the ending was supposed to be about the false assumption that an asylum seeker had done it. The possibility that a rape had actually taken place from that quarter at that very moment was not mentioned, which makes the fear of those around them and the false accusation all the more understandable.
It really could have been a tremendously good film adaptation if the emphasis had focused less on a political statement.
The killer's perspective was portrayed very well, I must say. I was more curious, however, about how his perspective came about. I might have found the series more engaging if they had added even more depth to that (if there was any).
Now I feel more of a bitter aftertaste of a family torn apart by a family tragedy and being dragged through the mud here once again.
