Rebecka Martinsson plot
When a good childhood friend unexpectedly dies, Rebecka returns to Kiruna, the town where she grew up. She soon discovers that her friend has been murdered. She decides not to return to Stockholm until the case is resolved. With Detective Anna-Maria Mella and her colleague Sven-Erik Stålnacke, Rebecka goes on the hunt for the killer, who could strike again at any moment. As she gets closer to the truth, she is simultaneously confronted with a traumatic event from her past that still haunts her and forced her to leave Kiruna at the time.

First a tip: if you have the opportunity, watch the prequel to this series first: [url=https://www.moviemeter.nl/film/48837/info/0#5032131]Solstorm (Film, 2007)[/ url]. And then I immediately come to the first disadvantage between the prequel, season 1 and season 2. Three different actresses play the role of Rebecka. With the film I can still imagine this but very unfortunate from season 1 to season 2, partly because most of the other characters in both seasons are played by the same actors and actresses. Another disadvantage are the almost unimaginative endings of the stories (1 story each time consists of 2 episodes): except in the last part of season 2, Rebecka does get slapped at the end of each story, a bit monotonous on a given moment. The ending of part 6 of season 2 was already completely strange and basically unfinished as far as the criminals were concerned. The continuous repetition of the troubles from her youth would also have been a little less acceptable. But overall a great series with some interesting plots. And beautiful pictures of the area of course.

Reminds me a bit of the Welsh Hinterland. Long episodes (on Netflix 4 times 80/90 minutes) that delve into a local conflict that sometimes goes back decades. But somehow it remains a bit superficial and sometimes unbelievable. It looks nice, and the beautiful landscapes and lead actress help. But this series does not really leave a lasting impression.
