Hidden plot

Inspector Cadi John returns to her hometown in North Wales after many years to be closer to her terminally ill father. Soon after her transfer, she has to get to work. The body of a young woman has been found in a river in Snowdonia National Park. Did she commit suicide or was she murdered? Cadi investigates the case with her new partner Owen Vaughan. The trail leads to Mali Pryce, a girl who has been missing since 2011. The investigation seems to indicate that she was then kidnapped and spent the entire time in captivity before she died.

A tad better than the first season, especially because of the this time more compelling murder case, which is very well worked out. The puzzle-like plot structure is also a plus. Main character inspector Cadi John (Sian Reese-Williams) comes off a bit more sluggish, partly because of her somewhat flat private situation, but we'll take that into the bargain. The beautiful countryside of Wales has never looked so desolate and desolate.

Very strong S2 of this Welsh thriller drama, with subdued lead role by Sian Reese Williams. Quirky, dark, grim, and set in a desolate, hopeless and foggy North Wales. A thriller at its core, but perhaps on closer inspection it is much more a drama about family, loss and grief. Acting is formidable in really all roles, rarely seen such a strong cast. Of course, the story itself is not very special and has been told before. And don't expect too much red herrings either. But the tension, the atmosphere, the inimitable Welsh, the actors and the music take this layered drama to great heights.
