Dad's Army season 1

Wonderful series this. It's old-fashioned, but maybe that's why it's so nice and British clunky. A set of completely opposite characters, all of them successful, with Jones and old Godfrey as my favourites.

Dad's Army season 5

I watched this series for the first time last year. Great windfall. The typically British humor strikes me as very fresh. And that for a series that revolves around some older guys who together form a Home Guard. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that the series is set in WWII. A very specific setting and approached from a somewhat more modern zeitgeist (1960s/70s) which makes it seem as if this series could have been written and recorded yesterday. Each character makes its own contribution, and this often goes through a running gag (the occasionally panicking Jones, the mannerisms of Godfrey, etc.). Each episode has a great scenario, and there is a lot of variation in storylines between the episodes. Also with a lot of outdoor shots, which is less the case in the first seasons.
