Community creator Dan Harmon is worried that he may have missed his chance to get the gang back together for the proposed movie spin-off.
The TV series ran from 2009 to 2015 and received critical acclaim.
It starred Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, Ken Jeong, Chevy Chase, and Jim Rash.
A movie spin-off has been speculated upon for years and in 2020 it was officially announced. But, several of the actors in the series, specifically Glover, have gone on to become major stars which meant scheduling became a problem.
All the major stars were confirmed as returning late last year, with production scheduled to begin in 2023. However, the strike of the Writers Guild of America put several productions on hold, including Community.
Due to the tight scheduling that was required to get everyone together, the future of the project is uncertain.
“By the time we can recoordinate, what are the odds that everyone’s schedule is going to once again align?" Harmon said in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter.
“Because the thing that’s going to matter most to me as an audience member or to anybody who loved that show is seeing those people see each other. And they still love each other, and it’s not going to feel the same if you’re shooting them separately at different months in different locations.”
Chevy Chase slams Community humour
Chase proved to be an unpopular cast member during his time on the show and he eventually left before the final season.
The comedian wasn't complimentary of Community in a recent interview with Marc Maron.
“I honestly felt the show wasn’t funny enough for me, ultimately. I felt a little bit constrained," he said.
“Everybody had their bits, and I thought they were all good. It just wasn’t hard-hitting enough for me. I just didn’t want to be surrounded by that table, every day, with those people. It was too much.”
In 2012, reports emerged that Chase had used a racial slur while questioning the dialogue in a scene between Glover and Brown.
