Fresh off the Boat plot
A Taiwanese-Chinese family moves to a suburb in Orlando in the 1990s. Father Louis Huang, with his friendly, optimistic attitude to life, runs a typical American steak restaurant. Mother Jessica Huang looks like an 'Asian tiger mom' from the outside: perfectionist, competitive, stingy and critical of her environment. At the same time, she is also a humorous woman with a heart for her family. Eddie Huang is a hip-hop loving teenager who develops feelings towards the opposite sex. Then there are Emery Huang and Evan Huang. Well drilled by their mother's harsh upbringing, they are studious boys who are well on their way to building their future careers. They couldn't be more different from their chaotic older brother Eddie.

Normally I don't watch American comedy series, but this series is very nice and funny. Perhaps it is more fun for people with a Chinese background or people who can identify with the culture and customs, because in this series they will sometimes clash with those of Westerners. All in all well worth it.

Together with Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015) one of the nicer new comedy series. About a Taiwanese-Chinese family in a predominantly white middle-class suburb. Especially Randall Park and Constance Wu are both very well attuned to each other, but for a change the child actors are also more than worth it. It's just a shame that Eddie Huang - the author of the original memoir - has since completely distanced himself from the series. Apparently a lot has been made up to keep the format fun for a long-running television series.
