Play for Today plot
Television anthology drama series, featuring both original television plays and adaptations of plays and novels. Some of these plays, such as "Rumpole of the Bailey," later became television series in their own right. Writers such as Ian McEwan, and John Hopkins wrote episodes for the series, and some prominent directors such as Stephen Frears, Alan Clarke, Michael Apted, Mike Newell, Roland Joffé, Ken Loach, Lindsay Anderson and Mike Leigh started their careers there.
