Onze Man bij de Taliban plot
After the sudden departure of the Americans and their Western allies, almost all foreign journalists also leave Afghanistan. Thomas Erdbrink just decides to spend a few months in Kabul. In this series he experiences how the new rulers tighten the strings every day. It also tells the stories of the Afghans who, after the west has abandoned them, have to live on under the Taliban. Thomas hangs out with proud Taliban bombers, speaks to courageous women who fight for an equal place in the new 'Islamic Emirate' despite all threats, and sees the devastating effect of years of drone attacks by the Americans and their Western allies in the countryside. During his months in Kabul, he meets a TV presenter who wants to become president, and who opposes the mandatory face covering when she reads the news. He also visits a Taliban fighter who has adopted a child from his slain brother, and yet is still ready to travel to paradise himself. Young women are not allowed to go to school by the Taliban, but in an illegal class Thomas meets angry fifteen-year-old girls who, despite the risks, still get lessons.
