Super League: The War for Football plot
Super League: The War for Football” is a four-part series that documents the battles at stake when plans for a breakaway league emerge. The story begins in April 2022, when it was revealed that 12 of the world's most powerful football clubs - including Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus - were planning to create a new weekday league, the European Super League (ESL), which involved that they no longer participate in established continental tournaments, including the Champions League and Europa League. Fans reacted furiously to the news, believing the move was fueled by the clubs' desire to grab a bigger piece of the pie in terms of broadcasting rights – and money. Inevitably, the whole plan collapsed.
