Legend of King Arthur, The plot

Dark Age Wizard Merlin, tired of the barbarism around him, creates a new order of enlightenment and justice with a young Arthur at its head. Merlin gives Arthur the magical sword Excalibur to help him against enemy kings. But Arthur also has to watch out for his half-sister Morgan, a sorceress who has sworn to avenge her father's death on Arthur. When Morgan intensifies her plans, she uses magic to make 'Round Table' Knight Lancelot and Queen Guinevere fall in love. But it's the even more treacherous Mordred who really threatens Arthur's rule.

Legend of King Arthur, The season 1

The series was made on a cheap budget and exudes simplicity in every way, but is well written and excellently acted. It could have been performed in the theatre. The only casting I didn't like was Morgan Le Fey's (I didn't like her outfit either, why does she look like a nun?). But Lancelot, for example, is great, just like Bors. What I also appreciated were the sword fights. It may seem a bit clumsy to some, but I liked seeing fights again where every half second wasn't cut and they made it work with limited resources.

Timeless and very enjoyable. I watched this one once in my teens and now, at least 30 years later, the series is still standing. Excalibur remains the ultimate film adaptation for me and has a better Merlin and Morgan, but it skips many events that are discussed in this miniseries. So this was an interesting DVD to find and put on.
