The Meilandjes take up the challenge of living on social assistance level for a month. The family exchanges their chic home in Noordwijk for an average rental house. It starts with handing in everything that belongs to the normal life of the Meiland family, such as bank cards, cars, laptops and mobile phones. The family receives a small amount for the furnishing of their new house and for the purchase of a third-hand car. Then they have to live on a very limited budget for a month. That budget is not only for daily shopping: they are also confronted with situations that normal families on welfare also have to deal with. For example, how do you organize a (children's) party for little money?
