Met Man en Macht plot

Mayor Gaston van Opstal has been in charge in the Flemish municipality of Ransegem for seventeen years. He runs his municipality like a perfect mayor, but then disaster strikes. Six months before the municipal elections, Ransegem is awakened from its quiet stability and the inhabitants are dragged into political life. Municipal politics grows from a dormant self-evidence into a ruthless election campaign. Choices have to be made between family or career, between self-interest or community interest. Because what happens when people's ambition is bigger than their mind?

Met Man en Macht season 1

Entertaining TV series by two Tommen, Lenaerts and Van Dyck.

The cast is first and foremost a feast for the eyes, with stars such as Jan Decleir, Lucas Van den Eynde, Peter Van den Begin, Koen De Graeve and of course Tom Van Dyck himself. His wife Alice Reys also has a role to play. And Josse De Pauw is also participating, even if it is only for one episode, and I think that's a shame; De Pauw played his role as mayor of Ranzegem with brilliance.

In my opinion, the first episode is the best, it's where the most happens (both in the story itself and with me as a viewer). The plot is then expertly laid out in seven episodes; a story about local politics and hidden ambitions, but also about the many small sides of man. Van Dyck is a master in illuminating man as a simple creature.

Humor also plays a big part in this story, with some very funny scenes. Sometimes a bit embarrassing, too, like the scene where Lode Verbist reveals his slogan for the elections, and René gets a giggle because he has to think about a fart.(

Besides the first episode, I especially like the episode in which Tony, Chris, Carl and René ended up in a Chinese restaurant in Brussels, have to deal with bull balls and Duvels, and Chris without wanting to discover that his father is a transvestite.

Met Man en Macht is a series that only had one season, and this story is also perfect for that; it argues for the makers that they have not started a second season. In terms of magic, in my opinion, it doesn't come close to champs like Het Eiland and Van Vlees en Bloed, but all in all I was able to enjoy this quite well, it has sometimes made me laugh and sometimes moved me.
