Afghanistan: Das Verwundete Land plot

This documentary series looks at the past forty years of Afghan history from the individual perspectives of people who played a decisive role or had a unique perspective on these events in Afghanistan. In the early 1970s, Afghanistan seemed like a paradise for hippies, but beneath this surface the country found itself at a crossroads: between East and West, Islam and communism, modernity and tradition. When the communists took power, all these contradictions exploded. Afghanistan plunged into civil war and became a training ground for Osama bin Laden's terrorist network. After 9/11, millions of Afghans hoped for the return of the golden age, but their situation deteriorated even further. The Warlords remained in power and Afghanistan was caught in an endless cycle of violence.

Impressive documentary with a good overall picture of the suffering and oppression that the civilian population has withstood for years.

From the monarchy with a desire for modernization and westernization, which was not appreciated by everyone and led to a popular uprising, to the communist influences and ultimately the Soviet occupation and the guerrilla struggle. The Soviet withdrawal - America's support for the resistance - brought hope, but soon the country was in civil war. The arrival of the fanatical Taliban curtailed many freedoms and after 9/11 UN intervention appeared on the scene, well-intentioned but unable to create order.

Actually a highly recommended doc. which clearly explains several backgrounds in the problem country of Afghanistan.
