De 12 van Schouwendam (2019)

The story revolves around two students, a boy and a girl, who disappeared from the face of the earth 25 years ago. A mysterious man walks into the village of Schouwendam one day and claims he is the missing boy. Schouwendam is then turned upside down.

The tension is of a good quality, it does take some getting used to to the many characters, which sometimes makes it seem confusing because what is it all about and what is the relationship to all those characters. It is therefore suffocating from the different storylines because every character has his own thing. Many current topics such as Drugs, Depression, Homosexuality...

Main line is of course: Who and what with Olaf Witte, a role that is strongly portrayed by Gijs Naber. Since he appeared in Schouwendam, the strangest things have happened and an entire village is in turmoil. It is up to Detective Karlijn van Andel (played by Carine Crutzen) to solve all this…. Carine Crutzen plays masterfully in the series.

Ten exciting episodes work towards a climax, and in each episode you already think the viewer knows who is behind it .. Yes to come to a surprising denouement at the end.

The 12 of Schouwendam may not be as strong as the 12 of Oldenheim, but certainly not bad. It is definitely worth watching and it keeps the viewer well entertained.

I found this series comparable in level to the other "The Twelve of...". Even though the mystery was maintained throughout all episodes, I found the plot of Schouwendam to be a bit more unlikely than that of Oldenheim. In any case, there were plenty of holes in it and many questions remained unanswered. These are certainly not bad series by Dutch standards; I still prefer the Scandinavian crime series, especially when it comes to acting.
