Doragon Bōru Zetto plot
Goku is a Saiyan, who has lived on planet Earth almost all his life. He has friends here, a woman named Chi-Chi and a son named Gohan. But over the years the Saiyan has also made many enemies and invariably these enemies endanger his family, friends, planet Earth or even the entire universe. Wonderful start to Dragon Ball Z.
The Dragon Ball atmosphere is still there in the first episodes, but quickly disappears as soon as Nappa and Vegeta arrive on Earth. From there, 'Dragon Ball Z' effortlessly surpasses its predecessor.
The fights between the Z fighters and the Saiyans are really great. I've always had a soft spot for the brutus Nappa. Lovely bad guy 
Vegeta, on the other hand, has never been my favorite (sorry, I know there are a lot of fanboys 
). In this saga I can still air it, because in the fight between him and the Z fighters everyone has to go deep.
Only downside is that there are quite a few fillers between Raditz and Nappa. The Ocean Dub (version on TV) was heavily cut. This also made the fun filler episodes disappear, just think of the episode with the robot stuck in the cave.
In themselves, these filler episodes are there. But the sequence makes it just a little too long before we get back to action.

The first and also by far the best saga in the entire series. All still pretty down to earth and with some charm. The variety is huge, with the short fight with Raditz, the training with King Kai and the next fight with first Nappa and then Vegeta. There is also no stretching here as would happen with later enemies. The drawing style is also just a bit nicer and more detailed than the sequel. But also rawer. That gives just that little bit extra. 4.5*.
nb The English version had fewer episodes, I think mainly because they were longer and therefore all cut slightly differently, but also that parts are missing.
