Directed by Yuasa, so I was really looking forward to this. And then it's disappointing, because plot wise it feels like a dime a dozen anime, and animation wise there are only a few moments of Yuasa's craziness that I think is so cool. Those moments can be found especially in the first episode during the Bacchanal. For the rest it does look neat, but the idiosyncratic stamp of Yuasa itself is a bit lacking in my opinion.

Other than that, a plot that doesn't feel unusual. It's pretty graphic at times, and it's grueling butchering the main character's family and loved ones, which is cool in itself, but not unique as witness [i]Berserk[ /i] just to name a few. During those massacres, unfortunately, often overdramatic music is placed there and I can't do much with that at all.

In short, a disappointment, although it is also not entirely to cry . Hopefully Yuasa will get a lot of money for this with which he can subsequently deliver a more idiosyncratic and atmospheric work. 2.5*.
