Marco Polo plot

Marco Polo grows up with his mother, because his father, Niccolò Polo, travels the world as a trader. One day, Niccolò takes his son on a multi-year journey across Asia, where they are captured by Kublai Khan, grandson of Genghis Khan, who rules Mongolia in the 13th century. In order to continue using the Silk Road, Niccolò leaves his son at court as collateral. At court, young Marco Kublai provides Khan with his world views as the latter expands his empire into China.

Lastig te beoordelen dit seizoen. Hoewel ik bij sommige gedeeltes bijna in slaap viel, zaten er dit seizoen toch wel een aantal geweldige verhaallijnen, beelden en scènes in. Wederom is het Benedict Wong die de show steelt en is Marco Polo zelf eigenlijk nog minder boeiend dan in het vorige seizoen. Aan het einde van het vorige seizoen kregen we al een voorproefje van de gevaren die het Mongoolse Rijk dit seizoen tegen moest gaan. Ik moet zeggen dat de twee 'bad guys' goed neergezet zijn, heel subtiel zelfs. En wat een beelden tijdens de oorlogsscènes! Helaas had dit seizoen nauwelijks martial arts momenten, iets wat mij juist naar deze serie trok. Hundred Eyes kwam slechts enkele keren in actie. Verbetering vergeleken het vorige seizoen, maar het kan allemaal nog net een stukje interessanter gemaakt worden. De cliffhanger belooft wederom veel.

Hard to rate this season. Although I almost fell asleep in some parts, there were some great storylines, images and scenes this season. Once again it is Benedict Wong who steals the show and Marco Polo himself is actually even less captivating than in the previous season.

At the end of last season, we already got a taste of the dangers the Mongol Empire had to face this season. I have to say that the two 'bad guys' are well portrayed, very subtly even. And what images during the war scenes! Unfortunately, this season hardly had any martial arts moments, something that drew me to this series. Hundred Eyes only came into action a few times.

Improvement compared to the previous season, but it can all be made just a bit more interesting. The cliffhanger again promises a lot.

Ik vond het een heel erg gaaf seizoen en kijk nu erg uit naar het derde seizoen. Ik baal ook wel dat er geruchten gaan dat de serie geen derde seizoen meer zal krijgen....Redenen zijn een combi van Benedict Wong die andere verplichtingen heeft, slechte kijkcijfers en zeer hoge productiekosten... Duimen maar, het zou jammer zijn als het hiermee eindigt. 4*

I thought it was a really cool season and I'm really looking forward to the third season. I am also disappointed that there are rumors that the series will no longer get a third season .... Reasons are a combination of Benedict Wong who has other obligations, poor viewing figures and very high production costs ...

Thumbs up, it would be a shame if it ends this way. 4*

Stukken minder dan het eerste seizoen, doordat het interessante historische personage, namelijk Marco Polo, naar de achtergrond is verdwenen. Het meeste Chinese en Mongoolse gekibbel is niet zo interessant of spannend en er wordt te weinig verteld in een heel seizoen. Waarschijnlijk hadden ze de serie willen rekken, maar beter was het geweest om iets meer interessante gebeurtenissen in dit seizoen te stoppen ipv om op te sparen voor een eventueel volgend seizoen.

Much less than the first season, because the interesting historical character, namely Marco Polo, has faded into the background. Most Chinese and Mongolian bickering isn't that interesting or exciting, and too little is told in an entire season.

They probably wanted to stretch the series, but it would have been better to stop something more interesting in this season instead of saving up for a possible next season.
