The Lincoln Lawyer plot

Lawyer Mickey Haller is finally doing well. After two years of going astray, Haller is back in court. When Hollywood attorney Jerry Vincent is murdered, Haller inherits his biggest case yet: defending Walter Elliott, a prominent studio executive accused of murdering his wife and her lover. But as Haller prepares for the case that could bring him much, he discovers that Vincent's killer is after him next time.

Quite nice, I liked it better than season 2. Nice cliffhanger at the end.

I still don't think the characters are very strong. Lorna is a young girl who is going to blow out 47 candles this year but behaves like a 22 year old. I still can't get used to Cisco's voice and think he's a pretty "I want to but I can't" rough bear. And Izzy is a token black girl without a real personality.

3 stars for season 3, and considering the horrible, thumb-thick makeup and the total lack of charisma from Yaya Dacosta (Andrea Freeman's character) I'm being quite generous.

It's a fun watch, and the good story makes sure you're too busy following the plot twists to really pay attention to the above points, but looking back it would be more fun with better, sharper characters.

The Gods of Guilt. I genuinely enjoyed the dark approach of the third season. Mickey Haller always had to bend the rules to get the criminal justice system on his side, but now the system itself seems inadequate to filter out its own rot. It all builds to a poignant climax in which Mickey is forced to acknowledge his own powerlessness to protect everyone. With the grim cliffhanger, it seems as if they'll continue those dark undertones in the fourth season.
