The sword of Damocles - the sexual affair with Mia - finally descends on Hank Moody, so the entire season is devoted to how he must come to terms with the law. But the worst part is that both Karen and Becca distance themselves from him because they can no longer deal with the destructive hedonism that led Hank to his wrong decision. The series has finally regained the dark tone that I slightly missed in the previous season. Although there is again enough room for humor here, because in the end hilarity is often sought out in funny supporting roles (Rob Lowe!) and wonderfully farcical situations. Californication isn't as fresh as the first season ever was, but it's still an enjoyable series.
