Slow Horses plot

Slough House is the office of the British security service MI5 where the agents end up who have made an unforgivable mistake, the so-called 'Slow Horses'. Jackson Lamb is in charge of this spy service drain. The cops are given a boring and mind-numbing job, in the hope that they will resign after a while. But then Slough House becomes embroiled in a dangerous case in which a man threatens to be beheaded by his captors live on the internet.

I thought Season 1 was a solid English spy series, but I'm liking this season a bit more. Gary Oldman's Jackson Lamb gets a lot more screen time, and the somewhat dull River Cartwright (Jack Lowden) gets a lot less. His (sort of) stunt-flying, flirtatious love interest, Kelly (Tamsin Topolski), could have gotten a bit more screen time, in my opinion.

There's also more, sometimes quite edgy, spy action with shady Russians and less focus on bureaucratic intrigue. The latter is a nice touch, especially when Samuel West's delightfully villainous Peter Jude appears. I don't expect to see him again after Season 1, but he seems to only become more important.

What strikes me about this show, and Pluribus even more, is that those Apple TV series seem to have a kind of unlimited budget. "We just cast Gary Oldman and have Mick Jagger write the theme song. And everything on location, none of that ugly Netflix CGI junk."

A routine six-part British spy thriller with echoes of the Cold War. A seamless sequel to the first installment, this time about singing crickets breaking the silence. Under inspiring leadership—or something resembling it—Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman - Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) directs the failed MI5 agents. Lamb—drinker, thinker, rebel, spy—delivers verbally amusing fireworks, but the second season of Slow Horses fails to live up to the high expectations. While Slow Horses is solid, it's mostly predictable, unpretentious, and unexciting.
