More Harry Potter than Addams Family, but surprisingly entertaining and with a nice plot and sympathetic characters. Jenna Ortega is perfectly cast in the lead role. Certain story elements unfortunately come off a bit rough, especially the rest of the Addams family. Significant in that regard is that the only episode in which parents Gomez and Morticia are central, You Reap Whay You Woe, is the least in the series. Aside from that, it's a great series and I'd like to see a second season.

Where I still find the 90s films atmospheric and very funny, I experienced this series as nothing special. Maybe I compared too much to those movies, but I quickly saw this as a Gossip Girl/Pretty Little Liarsesque event in a Burton jacket.
I constantly recognized the Warner Brothers lot as a filming location (Gilmore Girls, Back to the Future etc), which somehow I found clumsy. The culprit was already clear to me in episode 1 (it's always the innocent-looking with the glasses and in this case happens to be former Wednesday).
It never gets macabre, not even in a funny way, which I really think is an important ingredient in an Addams product. Also, even within its genre, it is not realistic that Wednesday is attraction fodder for men.
It all looks good and is fairly atmospheric a la Harry Potter, but not my cup of tea. My 11 year old niece loves it, maybe that says something.
