The Peripheral plot

Flynne's brother Burton is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was part of the elite 'Haptic Recon Force' unit. Then he is hired for a job as a security guard of (what he thinks) cyberspace. When Flynne temporarily takes his place, she believes she is witnessing something that resembles a murder.

Wat een heerlijke scifi serie met een wederom sublieme Chloë Grace Moretz, da's toch wel een toppertje. Met ook het 3de seizoen v 'Travelers' ook bezig, 2 series in soort van hetzelfde straatje. Al is dit nog meer scifi gevoel, maar echt op de sterkst mogelijke manier. Ook gewoon visueel zeer prachtig. Ik geef hier de volle punten voor.

What a wonderful sci-fi series with another sublime Chloë Grace Moretz, that's a winner . Also working on the 3rd season of 'Travelers', 2 series in kind of the same vein. Although this is even more sci-fi feel, but really in the strongest possible way. Also just visually very beautiful. I give full marks for this.

Viel me allemaal wat tegen, maar moest het even laten bezinken om te weten waarom juist. Het plot is allemaal wat nodeloos verwarrend en complex, met een overdaad aan zelf bedachte futuristisch klinkende termen, maar dat zal allemaal wel bij die soort scifi horen. Het zijn de personages waarmee ik problemen heb. De saaiste personages, zij zonder enige uitstraling, zijn net de centrale hoofdrollen (Flynne & Wilf). Degenen die daar omheen draaien zijn al wat boeiender en de kleinere bijrollen zijn degenen die het tof zouden maken, maar die te weinig aan de beurt komen. Dit omdat er uiteraard, zoals bij alle moderne series, 5 plotlijnen door elkaar moeten lopen. De toffe personages verschijnen vroeg maar verdwijnen (Aelita), verschijnen pas erg laat in de reeks (Lowbeer) of doen eigenlijk maar anderhalve aflevering mee (huurmoordenaar Bob). Hierdoor zat ik vaak te hopen dat het slap gelul van de centrale figuren steeds weer zo snel mogelijk voorbij was zodat er een interessantere figuur in beeld zou komen en dat lijkt me toch de verkeerde beleving voor een reeks. Nog een klein minpuntje was dat we naar figuren in een futuristische toekomst zitten te kijken die belanden in een nog futuristischere toekomst. Qua contrast vond ik dat nogal nietszeggend.

I was all a bit disappointed, but had to let it sink in to find out why. The plot is all a bit needlessly confusing and complex, with an abundance of self-invented futuristic-sounding terms, but that must all be part of that kind of sci-fi.

It's the characters that I have problems with. The most boring characters, albeit without any charisma, are like the central leads (Flynne & Wilf). Those who revolve around that are a bit more interesting and the smaller supporting roles are the ones who would make it great, but who don't get enough. This is because of course, as with all modern series, 5 plot lines have to run together. The cool characters appear early but disappear (Aelita), appear very late in the series (Lowbeer) or actually only participate for an episode and a half ([spoiler= 367013]hitman Bob). As a result, I often hoped that the bullshit of the central figures would be over as quickly as possible so that a more interesting figure would come into the picture and that seems to me to be the wrong experience for a series.

Another small downside was that we are looking at figures in a futuristic future that end up in an even more futuristic future. In terms of contrast, I found that rather meaningless.
