Non Mi Lasciare plot

Policewoman Elena Zonin lives and works in Rome. There she conducts research into cybercrime and violence against minors. The discovery of the corpse of a little boy in the lagoon of Venice brings her back to the city she had left twenty years ago. She is also reunited with her longtime lover Daniele. He now works in the Homicide Unit and is responsible for the boy's case. The investigation soon leads to the discovery of a complex and intricate case. Elena, Daniele and his wife Giulia will have to come to terms not only with their past, but also with powerful and unsuspected enemies, in a mission that will put their lives on the line.

Bedenkers Leonardo Fasoli (ZeroZeroZero, Gomorra) en Maddalena Ravaglo (Gomorra, Maltese) hebben van het achtdelige Don't Leave Me een sfeer- en stijlvol thrillerdrama gemaakt dat zich afspeelt in Venetië. Rechercheur Elena Zonin (Vittoria Puccini) onderzoekt de handel in jongens door een misdaadorganisatie. Ze komt terecht in Venetië waar oude liefde Daniele aan een moord onder verdachte omstandigheden werkt. Samen met de hoogzwangere vrouw van Daniele, ontspint zich een heerlijke Italiaanse triangolo amoroso. Hoewel soms voorspelbaar en wat té gelikt, maakt Don't Leave Me indruk. Met uitstekend acteerwerk in typisch Italiaanse stijl. Hoofdrol is echter weggelegd voor Venetië. Zonder vervuilende toeristen gefilmd tijdens corona in 2021, geeft Don't Leave Me Venetië een wonderbaarlijke schoonheid in het fotogenieke voorjaarslicht.

Creators Leonardo Fasoli (ZeroZeroZero, Gomorra) and Maddalena Ravaglo (Gomorra, Maltese) have turned the eight-part Don't Leave Me into an atmospheric and stylish thriller drama set in Venice. Detective Elena Zonin (Vittoria Puccini) investigates the trafficking of boys by a crime organization. She ends up in Venice where old love Daniele is working on a murder under suspicious circumstances. Together with Daniele's heavily pregnant wife, a delicious Italian triangolo amoroso develops.

Although sometimes predictable and a bit too slick, Don't Leave Me makes an impression. With excellent acting in typical Italian style. However, the leading role is reserved for Venice. Filmed without polluting tourists during corona in 2021, Don't Leave Me gives Venice a wonderful beauty in the photogenic spring light.

Het misdaadverhaal beslaat ongeveer een-derde van deze serie, de rest is drama met daarbij nog een beetje mysterie. Als je over de standaard missers in dit soort series heen kijkt, zoals een hoofdkarakter met psychische problemen, onprofessionele soloacties en GSM-verbindingen die het op cruciale momenten af laten weten, dan is dit best een goede serie met een interessant en ook nog realistisch misdaadverhaal. De setting is daarbij ook nog eens heel mooi. Ik ben zo'n vijftien jaar geleden in Venetië geweest en toen was er qua toeristen al geen doorkomen meer aan, vandaar dat dit tevens mijn laatste bezoek was. Wat dat betreft heb ik in deze serie meer van Venetië gezien dan destijds. De cast is prima. Als in de laatste twee afleveringen wat meer vaart had gezeten, dan had ik vier sterren gegeven.

The crime story takes up about a third of this series, the rest is drama with a bit of mystery thrown in. If you look past the standard blunders in this kind of series, such as a main character with mental problems, unprofessional solo actions and cell phone connections that fail at crucial moments, then this is a pretty good series with an interesting and realistic crime story. The setting is also very beautiful. I went to Venice about fifteen years ago and back then it was already jammed with tourists, which is why this was also my last visit. In that respect I saw more of Venice in this series than back then. The cast is fine. If the last two episodes had had a bit more pace, I would have given them four stars.
