hmm.
Shadow and Bone actually starts off nicely. A bit mysterious, slick design, good tempo, and a nice atmosphere. However, from episode 2 it actually goes downhill. The biggest problem is that it's really extremely soap-like. Lots of side drama that has nothing to do with the story at all.
It's a shame because the story intrigued me in the beginning. Think Pirates of the Caribbean meats Harry Potter with the mystique of Harry Potter and the design of Pirates of the Caribbean.
Not a bad combination, but it is continuously interrupted by stretched scenes with characters who have no idea what they actually want. As a result, the pacing is often completely lost and then those 55 minutes are suddenly very long.
The first 800 reviews yesterday suggested that we had a new Netflix hit like Stranger Things, but after the first episode it was already clear that this could go on for above-average entertainment. A mission that it certainly succeeds in, but it ends there.
Recommended for fans of mystery soaps with an easy look away content (Once Upon A Time). However, the average series enthusiast will not really be waiting for this.

Not hugely impressed. Fantasy movies and series are usually either very good or very bad. But this is a fantasy series that is right in between. The sets, statues and costumes are all great. I found the characters and the world less interesting. Highlights were all the interactions between Alina and the General. In addition, I found the story of the three bandits (or what were they?) extremely boring. Especially the actor who played Jesper played very childish.
I think I'll give season 2 another chance, although I wouldn't call it a must see.
