Six separate stories with the only common feature that they always take place in one specific location. Each story also gets its atmosphere from the possibilities that the place of that episode entails. One episode you watch a group of bored rich guys hiding in a closet. The next episode sees two bumbling burglars trying to break into a modern villa. My absolute favorite is the teenage girl who has to babysit in a gothic mansion. That location is exploited to the most absurd detail with atmospheric camera angles and ghostly decoration.
Those limited locations also mean that there is even more emphasis on the absurd characters and the chemistry they have with each other. Leave it to comedic geniuses Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton to shape terrifying freaks. In a previous project like Psychoville they were somewhat hesitant because there was a continuous storyline, here they can go wild with a new series of characters. What makes their characters so fun is that they always have a strange combination of repulsive disgust and a hard-to-place emotion. Their characters do the most disgusting things to each other, yet it is not difficult to identify with them.
