Gene Autry has isolated himself to quietly work on the case of Dave Weldon (Jones), who is suspected of stealing money from the military. When Weldon escapes, much to Sheriff Pat Buttram's dismay, Gene goes after him with the help of his father, his sister and the Cass County Boys. Things take a complicated turn when scheming bandit Mike McClure (Henry Rowland) steps in.
