Sundown plot

"It's Big! Big with the throbbing life of the sturdy pioneers-Big with the fire that pulses through our own veins-Big with the stirring events that conquered a continent and cemented a race."

The rancher John Brent returns from the East to tell his fellow ranchers that they will have to leave their territory and leave for Mexico to make way for the arrival of settlers. During the train ride, Brent's son Hugh meets settler Ellen Crawley. When the ranchers go to Mexico with their cattle, the herd runs wild and destroys the Crawleys' home. Though the ranchers hold a grudge for the Crawleys, Hugh insists they take them to Mexico. Along the way, Ellen's personality eventually wins the sympathy of even the most heartless of the ranchers and it seems that when they reach the Mexican border they all want to raise money so the Crawleys can settle again.
