Los Angeles, 1848. Bill Stockton leaves Missouri to join his brother Larry in California, intent on finding gold. Bill and his friend Sam Bowie arrive in the quaint old town of Los Angeles, only to find out that outlaws rule Los Angeles. These outlaws attack miners and trains, burn ranches, loot shops and kill those who oppose them. Bill learns that his brother Larry has been murdered because of the gold claim he filed for him. Bill wants to avenge his brother's death, but gets in trouble when he's seduced by the irresistible Estelita Del Rey. Estelita deceives Bill by asking him to protect her criminal lover Johnny Morrell. Meanwhile, Bill suspects Luis Savarin, the owner of a gambling palace, and Marie Marlowe, an artist who works for Savarin, of involvement in his brother's murder.
