Gabriël plot
Early 1945. Jacob is a 12-year-old Jewish boy who is hiding with his sister and uncle in a cellar in an abandoned village in the Liemers, where there is fierce fighting over their heads for the freedom of the Netherlands. One day, Jacob sees above the ground a badly wounded young German soldier who is dressing as a Canadian soldier, in a desperate attempt to stay out of the hands of the Allies. When the soldier falls unconscious, Jacob decides to help him and takes him into the bomb shelter, without telling his sister and uncle who the soldier really is.
