Die Somme plot
On the morning of June 24, 1916, near the River Somme, the Allies opened fire on the German troops. The aim is to destroy the border line of the Germans. After hours of bombardment, the Allies make a big mistake: assuming the Germans have been defeated, the British and French march uncovered to the border line. They have no idea that most of the German soldiers survived the bombardment in the bunkers in the ground. Then, between July 1 and November 18, 1916, the Battle of the Somme takes place, one of the bloodiest battles of the First World War. More than a million soldiers are killed. A German woman loses her three sons.
