Secret Service plot

In Richmond, Virginia, the battle between the Northern and Southern states is in full swing. The stubborn Edith (Meryl Streep) does everything she can to keep her beloved Captain Thorne (John Lithgow) away from the front. She takes care of a post at a local telegraph office and hopes that it will give him something to do. Not long after, a rumor reaches her that a Union spy is trying to infiltrate the same office.
