Sunny would do anything to get out of Purgatory Flats. Away from her heavy-handed husband and his lecherous family. She'll do anything for it, even murder. When a mysterious man arrives in town looking for a job, Sunny sees an opportunity in him. Thomas used to be a doctor and once had a wife. After serving four years for the murder of his wife, he is looking for a fresh start. When Sunny approaches him, he is drawn to her like a moth to a lamp... One rainy night in Purgatory, Sunny's husband, Owen Mecklin, is shot during a botched drug deal. When Thomas finds him first, he reverts to his doctor role and saves Owen's life. This draws Thomas into the dark world of the Mecklin family, where nothing is as it seems. Despite never really being alone, Thomas falls for Sunny. The two must get away from the Mecklins before they are dragged too deep into their murderous plots for revenge. All this leads to a denouement as the truth emerges and dark family secrets are revealed. If Thomas and Sunny can trust each other long enough, they stand a chance of getting out of Purgatory alive.
