The story is rough, but normally this can be straightened out if full focus is placed on atmosphere and strong acting. The atmosphere is reasonable, but the acting is really cringe-inducingly bad. This way I didn't get into the film at all, and if it doesn't have a great story or a wonderful atmosphere, it's an unexpected flop from the man partly responsible for REC.

1.5*

Second Name is a Spanish thriller with horror elements that is somewhat reminiscent of Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby. The story unfolds very slowly and does not really captivate. The acting is also weak. 4/10

If you follow the career of a breakthrough director, it is always striking how much improvement they have made over the years. In the case of director Paco Plaza, you can say that his qualities have improved considerably, because Second Name is barely passable. Badly acted in particular, with a lousy performance from Erica Prior in particular, who cannot command the viewer's attention for a moment. There are many things to note about the build-up of tension as well as the atmosphere, which means that the film quickly has little to show to impress. It is that the substantive concept still manages to find some crazy sidetracks to still surprise somewhere, otherwise this weakly designed start to Plaza's career would have been forgotten in no time.
