Magellan plot

"The universe knew we were coming."

NASA scientists are baffled when they pick up unknown signals from space. Since they appear to come from something in our own solar system, a manned mission is sent there. His discoveries soon prove to have irreversible consequences for everyone on Earth.

Poor.

The set-up of this film is certainly not very original, but that's not even such a disaster. As with most core genre films, it is the elaboration that matters. An unknown signal in space and a mission to find out what's behind the signal is material enough for a nice sci-fi movie.

But then you can use someone who can either gather the necessary budget, or is talented enough to do it without a budget. Sci-fi is fairly expensive in terms of genre, especially when it comes to films that take place in space / other planets. That budget and talent was unfortunately not present here.

York does his best, but it never convinces. The interior of the spacecraft in particular looks desolate and cheap. Camera work and effects are also nothing at all, so that the film simply falls completely into the water. The mystery keeps the first half of the film a bit alive, but once that has also been cleared up, there is nothing left.

1.5*

Just finished watching and it's still pretty good. You can see that there is little budget available. The CGI looks very bad, although it didn't really bother me. I've always been more interested in the story, and yes, that bothered me.
The story is rudderless and goes in all directions. One moment it wants to be a exploration movie while at other times it has to be all about the "so-called drama with his wife." The whole thing with the Chinese hackers and the AI that was no longer reliable is also an example of this.

Besides the fact that the film lacked direction, I also believe that the story is implausible (as far as sci fi can of course). A signal is picked up that is very likely to be intelligent alien life, and you send only one (very incompetent, he constantly ignores protocol) astronaut into space, instead of a team . This is an event that is very likely to cause a revolution, why let everything depend on one person!? The ending was an example of his incompetence, what a bad ending! Another example of poorly thought out story: Why is everything so short? If you go to Titan, you also just want to do research on the moon itself, or at least be able to grab some samples!?

Too bad, because the poster looks very nice indeed (as 606 said)

Hm, this was a fairly low budget movie. Camera work was not that special and the cast was just so so.

The pace was not that fast, but it was still not boring. Was curious as to what was going to happen. The ending wasn't my thing.

I expected a bit more afterwards. It's not a movie that will stay with me. Good for once, but that's about it.
