Derby plot

When Barbara Hessling calls for help for her pregnant top horse Atalante, her old childhood friend Dieter Benningsen suddenly appears at her door, who is standing in for the regular vet. This immediately brings back memories of the time when Atalante was born and Dieter also happened to come to her aid. Their friendship has since grown into real love and plans for the future. But her love for Atalante, given to her by landowner Dahlen, who is secretly in love with her, has proven to be stronger time and again, causing them to lose sight of each other.
