A Ópera do Malandro plot
The film is a cinematic adaptation of Chico Buarque's famous opera. The story takes place during World War II, when Brazil is about to decide which party to join. Max Overseas, a petty thief and gambler, becomes involved with Lu, the teenage daughter of industrialist Otto Strüdell. Lu sees the future... and it lies with the United States.
