Emily, her fiancé Christian and a group of friends open an organic cafe and refurbish an old carriage house in New Orleans. A darkness descends on Emily when she discovers an ancient board that was once used to summon spirits. Christian seeks help for Emily from occult expert Alexander Babtiste, but Babtiste has secrets of her own. He knows the fateful bloodlines that connects them all to the witch board.

A modern, yet overly drawn-out remake of the 1986 horror film. Director Chuck Russell has extensive experience in this field, yet Witchboard often gives the impression of having been handled by a novice. The story builds up little in the way of interesting events, the ideas are not particularly compelling, and the characters never truly blossom. While there are some notably gory moments and a decent finale, Russell fails to breathe new life into this difficult subgenre. Bonus points for the professionally designed cinematography.
