Dark and gloomy drama about a young woman who is cornered by her evil uncle and his children because of her inheritance. It doesn't make you happy, but the denouement is a very nice find. An entertaining costume drama about an assertive girl with hair in her teeth. I can.

Irish costume drama in which Maud [Agnes O'Casey], the heir to a stately mansion and a fortune, finds herself in direct opposition to her family. Due to her age, her uncle Silas [David Wilmot] has been appointed administrator and he uses his position of power to force Maud to marry his son Edward [Chris Walley]. Atmospheric camera work by Eleanor Bowman and a screenplay that says a lot about the uneven relationships between men and women. A fascinating 'battle of the sexes' with O'Casey as the standout.
