"Into the Mind of a Serial Killer"

Lothar Schramm is a taxi driver who lives on his own. He has problems dealing with women, but he still regularly takes a woman to his apartment after giving her drugs. In his apartment he undresses the ladies when they are unconscious and then takes pictures of the naked bodies to get his money's worth. He then brutally murders his helpless victims.

The gorehound in me is sorely disappointed.

Admittedly there are a few nice gore scenes, but the film as a whole is completely uninteresting.

At most, the few scenes with the neighbor are a small bright spot.

It seems like Buttgereit didn't dare to go far enough in a lot of things. The scene with the inflatable doll was, in my opinion, one of the highlights of the film. Now that's an example of cinema showing things I'd rather not see.

For the rest: Uninteresting main character, too many deadly boring scenes.

Was my first Buttgereit: The trailers for Nekromantik and Der Todesking looked more interesting. Buttgereit will get a second chance.

Certainly some nice elements (shots of the runners), but measured across the board too amateurish and inconsistent in style. Resulting in a high 'I'm just trying' content. Film also became a bit laughable at times, partly due to the lamentable acting.

There are still plenty of films that portray such a look into the mind of a serial killer much better. Although I have to say that this was infinitely better than the ridiculous Nekromantik. 2*.

Controversial director Jörg Buttgereit has the potential to deliver a fine and experimental horror film, but this kind of film gives him a bad name. Schramm is more or less a concise registration of a serial killer, only very boring and uninterestingly portrayed by Florian Koerner van Gustorf. Buttgereit ticks all the boxes to deliver a "disturbing" and dirty film, but forgets a clear story line. Schramm jumps from scene to scene and alternates flashbacks and fantasies rather carelessly, perhaps because the plot surrounding the real world is completely uninteresting. A few explicit atrocities create an uneasy feeling, otherwise this film is really unwatchable.
