Scared Shitless plot

Plumber Don takes pride in his work. His son Sonny is a bacterophobe with an easily upset stomach. Sonny's mother recently passed away from a bacteria-related problem, which puts Sonny even more on edge. When Don gets a call about a plumbing problem, he decides to bring Sonny along to hopefully get his son out of this mentality. The job turns into a nightmare when they come into contact with a slug-like creature that is out for blood in an apartment toilet.

A small film that, within its (financial) limits, makes a nice contribution to the monster movie subgenre. Visually successful. Likeable characters. The story isn't much, but that doesn't really matter. It only serves to provide some context in the hectic pace. It's a quick read. Things aren't going great between a plumber and his son. Together, they set out to fix a blocked toilet in an apartment building. What initially seems like a simple task is actually a bit more complicated when a monster with a predilection for human flesh is discovered swimming around in the complex's drainage system.

It's commendable that Scared Shitless doesn't descend to the level of obvious, simple humor. Sure, the humor is there, but it's not exploited to the point of being annoying. Less fecal matters are also addressed. The monster pops up occasionally and provides the backdrop for many grotesque revelries. These are enjoyable scenes that occasionally offer a bit of gore, but they primarily serve a comical purpose. Furthermore, the film focuses on the father-son relationship, which is more or less central to the story. While the relationship isn't explored in a particularly deep or innovative way, it is illuminatingly illuminating, thanks in part to Steve Ogg, who plays the father figure.

Scared Shitless is a fun film. Made cheaply with non-digital effects that look good and enhance the viewing experience. Scared Shitless is a pleasant little work.
